The conversion kit is aimed at TD,TF owners who really want to use their cars more frequently on all road types and in all traffic conditions, including fast A roads and motorways and not be confined to secondary roads. The TD and TF models drive well but when on modern roads in fast traffic conditions the engine speed becomes too high for economy, comfort and engine life.

The 5 speed conversion turns the Td,TF into a more usable car capable of cruising at high speeds. Additional benefits include improved economy and engine life, reduced driver and passenger fatigue, vibration and fewer broken crankshafts!

TD-TF 5 speed Conversion

The conversion kit easily adapts the Ford Type 9 gearbox to either the XPAG and XPEG engines along with other necessary systems and fitment into the chassis. To enable the Ford gearbox and engine assembly to fit into the T Type chassis, the engine and gearbox assembly has to be moved approximately 10mm forward. All suitable mountings are supplied in the kit to enable this, many of the existing ancillaries and systems will compensate for this movement some adjustment may be necessary.

The standard 7 1/4" or 8" clutch cover, along with the cross shaft and release bearing mechanism are retained - it is recommended that these be checked and replaced as required. The replacement bell housing features correct bearings for the cross shaft mechanism.

The gearbox is supplied with a standard set of ratios best suited to the TD/TF. However, the gearbox can be built using various alternative gear ratios, including a close ratio set and a standard ratio set with a higher first gear ratio of 2.98:1 full details of ratios and associated costs are available.

The vehicle speedometer will need recalibrating. Instructions on how to measure the vehicle speedometer characteristics for recalibration are included.
