MGB five-speed conversion kits

Ideal for owners of non-overdrive cars or cars with overdrive unit reliability problems, or who want to upgrade their vehicle's performance in line with modern practice, with all ratios under the control of the clutch and gear lever. Two kits are available to cover all 4-synchro MGB cars with the wider gearbox tunnel and the 3-synchro   5-main bearing MGB models with narrow tunnel. The conversion adapts a Ford Sierra Type 9 5-speed gearbox, fully reconditioned, to the MGB engine. The standard ratios of the Ford Sierra gearbox suit the MGB well, with a 10% higher second gear for better overtaking. The fifth gear ratio is exactly the same as the MGB overdrive ratio.

Various alternative gear ratios can be provided, including a close ratio gearbox and a standard ratio gearbox with a higher first gear ratio of 2.98:1. The conversion is totally non-intrusive to the MGB. There are no holes to drill and no metal to cut or remove. The car can be returned to standard easily if and when required. The conversions are supplied with all parts and fitting instructions. Some conversions do not require the full list of parts below, but all parts required are included in every kit. The vehicle speedometer will require recalibration. Several companies are able to do this. Instructions on how to measure the vehicle speedometer characteristics for recalibration are included with the kit.

One Ford Sierra type 9 gearbox, fully reconditioned, no exchange.
One cast aluminum alloy bellhousing with four fixing bolts & washers
Machined aluminum alloy clutch release pivot with two fixing bolts & washers
Clutch release lever pivot bolt, nut and washer
Gasket, bellhousing to gearbox
Spigot bush (extended); two 1/4 UNF set screws to extract spigot bush if required
Gearbox mounting, two fixing bolts, distance pieces, washers & nuts. One central fixing bolt & spring washer
Replacement crossmember (gearbox support) with four fixing bolts & washers
Two clamp plates for cross member
Clutch plate (driven)
New propshaft assembly
Modified gearlever assembly with three securing screws & spring washer 
Propshaft, complete with Sierra gearbox nose piece
Speedometer cable with circlip & gromet
